Vita Pictura’s team decided to support the Estonian national women’s ice hockey team and produce a documentary film about their journey. We started documenting the story in August 2020 when the team got together for the first time in 12 years. Since then, we have been investigating their story and getting to know the team players by filming their private lives, training, and competitions in Estonia and abroad.
The Feature Documentary
This documentary is the main driver for women empowerment in our society since women’s sports are not as much represented as men’s sports.
The film follows the players in their daily routine, team building process, financial issues within the hockey team, and their journey towards achieving their goal in order to participate in the IIHF World Championship.
Film’s Support And Public Reception
The film received support from the Estonian Film Institute (Eesti Filmi Instituut) and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia (Eesti Kultuurikapital). The documentary is produced by Vita Pictura and Film Tower.
The film has been accompanied by a successful crowdfunding campaign and numerous
notable media mentions in the Women’s Hockey Life magazine, International Ice Hockey Federation, Kanal 2 television program, and the Estonian ERR article.
The film represented Estonia at the Fipadoc, International Documentary Film Festival 2023 in Biarritz, France, participated in the pitching competitions at the DocsBarcelona 2022, and the marketplace at Galway Film Fleadh 2022.
Work In Progress
The film is in the post-production stage, with additional shooting still taking place. The film is set to be released in 2024. Find out about the project on the website of the film, on Facebook, and Instagram.
